The highest mountain peak in Macedonia, Great Korab 2,764 meters a.s.l is in Mavrovo National Park, located in the western-central part of Macedonia.In the National Park Mavrovo you will find impressive forests that contain more than hundred rare species of different plants.
In 1948 The National Park Pelister was created – the first national park in Macedonia. Baba Mountain, more commonly known as Pelister is the southernmost mountain with alpine characteristics. Set between the valleys of Pelagonia and Prespa, it is over 465 million years old and the highest peak in the park is 2601meters a.s.l. The National Park is also rich with flora. There are 931 plant species, 61 species of lichens, 19 species of mosses and 264 species of mushrooms, 10 of these are protected at the European level.
The National Park Galicica, in the south-western part of Macedonia has its highest peak Magaro at 2255 meters a.s.l.from where you can have a unique view of the two beautiful lakes Ohrid and Prespa, at the same time.
The flora in the park are extremely rich and unique with more than 1000 different plants of which 176 are forest trees.
